Next time you buy a car and your asked to buy Disability Insurance..don't do it!

Conned by the F & I guy to take out disability insurance through Protective Life Insurance Company, we were assured the company was legit!

2 years later my husband was diagnosed with a terminal illness. This diagnosis was a shock and he had never been treated for anything relating to this before! We filed a claim and were sent this insane set of forms to fill out.

Had to be signed by husbands employer and filled out by ALL Dr.'s he had seen within the last 3 years! It took a month to get all the required papers filled out and we sent it back.

Protective Life Insurance sent numerous letters requesting more info and claiming to be waiting for response from Dr.'s who had already signed their forms!

After 4 months we get a letter of denial. Years ago my husband hurt his shoulder. Nothing major, just a strain and healed without him even missing work.

They are basing their denial on this shoulder injury even though,(in their own words) "the cause of your disability is not related to the condition you were treated for". It also mentions he was "prescribed Tylenol"!!!

So basically, if you've ever seen a Dr. for anything, you will be denied. The "questionnaire" is designed to let the company off the hook, no matter what happens to you! Complete rip off!

Scam Scam Scam...out over $600.00 and the insurance itself.

Shame on you Protective Life Insurance Company for scamming a terminally ill person! I hope this company goes out of business and I'll be passing on this "denial" letter to my attorney and to every Auto dealership (including the one that sold us this garbage) that I can get a mailing or email address for.

Monetary Loss: $608.

Location: Bartlett, Tennessee

Wow, what a shame. I hope you hired an attorney.

But I'm not surprised by this action. I know this company very, very well and have several friends who work there, in fairly high positions. The company has changed dramatically in the past few years, and IMO is no longer an honorable corporate citizen. Yours isn't the only case like this.

It has gotten so bad that they've lost a lot of their top people in the past year, who became disgusted with the new corporate philosophy of profits vs. honoring their contracts.

While a previous commenter noted that these companies are there to make a profit, that isn't the whole story. They're there to honor their contracts and commitments, and if they mislead you or didn't explain the policy, you may have a case.

Unfortunately, when it comes to disability insurance, there are several other companies that seek to avoid paying.

The best thing we can all do is to post the truth and their actions, as you're doing on this site. If we all keep it up and get the word out, these companies will gradually die.

Protective Insurance Company is not a scam, nor are they a ripe off company I have had a policy with them since 2002 and have had no problems. Of course it is life insurance so until I die, or my wife does, I would not be able to comment on them as following through with payments.

But at this time, they are a very affordable and reliable company with A or AA ratings, and there rates are competitive.

As for the Doctor or Nurse appointment, the company has no control over the physical, or doctors office, and usually a rehab specialists will review your disability claims. It is typical and logical for any disability claim to be for short term first and hardly over a year at a time. If you go for long term, you surely should expect to be examined, and even watched, if you are still claiming disability. The higher the claim and the longer the claim, the more practical it is for you to have an attorney.

Honest, any and all insurance companies are in it to make a profit and not to cover claims. So, understand that you must protect your self, and do research on any insurance company before purchasing any policy. I do have Protective Life but not disability coverage, and I was a Rehab Counselor forcing people back to work, so I do know what I am talking about.

Watch your back, even if you are truly and honestly disabled, remember they want profit, not claims or costs. Good luck.

So Zegota, your opinion in unqualified since you have never actually tried to do business with them except give them money.

This company is a scam. Sent me a letter/invoice asking me to "pay my bill", when I have never had insurance with this company in my life. I have had all of my insurance with a legitimate company (Northwestern Mutual)

I purchased a vehicle from Metro Ford in Raynham Ma Oct 2010, and was informed that due to my age I had to purchase Disability insurance from Protective life insurance Company, Its now April 2011 7 months after I purchased the insurance and I tryed to contact the Company with the Phone Number on the policy and it comes back that the number is no longer in service, I then attempted To look for a new number on the web but I had no luck. I Agree with the above comment as I am going to contact the Mass Attorney Generals office and file a complaint.
