Protective Life Corporation - Life Insurance Review

Avoid this company at all costs ! After paying thousands of dollars of premiums on my mother's life ins policy for 18 years they are pulling it away and we are losing our $100,000 policy, stating She has out lived it. They are doing the same thing on a policy she is paying on. This is criminal ! How can this sleecy company get away with this ? Protective Life - avoid it at all costs , we have lost thousands in wasted premiums ! Bob from Ohio

Mom passed over 2 months ago, dealing with death is hard enough, life ins. is horrible. Sent d c they said they didn't get it we had 2 policies for mom, they didn't catch that, sent in the witness papers said they didn't get, they did. All was sent in together, so Nick n I had to redo n mail, couldn't fax they took fax from my niece on other policy. Then Lea had a trainee we found out that didn't know what she was doing, told couldn't except fax because of value of policy, oops then they found the DCert. I asked her to call when she got our redos, which she didn't thanks Leo glad to know your in charge. Then they scanned my W9 n the 8 looked like a 3 easy to fix or sled them to rescan my original couldn't do that So I faxed it AGAIN yesterday, called to see they got it although I have confirmation from UPS Told it could take 4 to 6 hours scan in Alabama, then processed in Tennessee. What? So call me today n again said didn't receive it

Protective Life Corporation - Review in Insurance category from Annville, Kentucky

I have been dealing with this bunch since august and keep getting the run around from not getting the claim forms after repeated calls and lies from customer service about what they have and what is required. I had to call the state insurance commission before they finally got my claim forms to me now it's a game getting them to process the claim and now wanting information on my mothers estate which is a scam to delay the process even further this is a very evasive and dishonest company I would never purchase a policy from this bunch for myself.

Cancellation Notice

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Just called to find out why my policy purchased back in 1986 was being cancelled and my monthly payment has been made automatically every month. Was told by George that I haven't been paying the increased payment so they took money out of my cash value to make up the difference. My policy was paid up in 2000 and I continued to make the $24.35 payment every month for a death benefit of $29,558 through Aetna Life Insurance, later sold to ING and now to Protective Life Insurance. At no time did I receive information that my premium was increased, just a letter saying that I may want to contact them because of changes in insurance needs. They never said my premium wasn't enough. All the cash surrender I had built up is gone. I have a guaranteed Interest rate of 4.50%. George tells me if I don't begin paying the increased rate of what ever it may be, he didn't tell me, I would forfeit everything I have paid since 1986. I told him I was contacting the AG regarding this.

Paying since 1973 was CANCELLED after my claim was denied.

Dishonest Company

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Made a double payment in error. Called customer service to be sure the second payment was applied to next quarter's invoice. Was told that a payment had been missed in the past. Knew no payment had been missed; luckily have records of all payments. Was told payment missed was in 2005. Again, I have the record of all my payments including that one. Told by rep that they keep all payment records back two years which begs the question of where she got the 2005 false information. Rep is referring to other dept that will research. - Lesson for you all who have Protective Life. Keep records of your payments. Was told by rep that my policy has a so-called "flexible payment" factor (news to me) which is why I was never notified of the bogus missed payment back in 2005. Disturbingly dishonest company practice.

Jan 12, 2016. Still nothing from Protective Insurance to show what my premiums would be if I converted to a Universal Life policy, no physical required ....

Original review Jan 08, 2016
I purchased a term life insurance policy through West Coast Life several years ago and have never missed a premium payment. The policy will expire soon, and the policy offers a Conversion option to a Universal life or Whole Life policy without taking a physical exam.

I have contacted the company 5 times and requested they email the details, options and rates to me, but no reply? I have had phone calls from other life inusrance agenies offering me life insurance, but not a word from the company regarding my current life insurance poilcy.

Can someone tell me if this company is still in business, and if they are, why they refuse to contact me with this information? Should I contact the state Insurance Dept?

Still not a word. I have called the number and no answer.

It's like there is no one there ... Now very concerned that if my widow would ever have to make the claim, she would not be able to reach anyone ...

Direct Payment

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My monthly payments for two policies were not deducted because Protective sent a letter stating that there was a problem with my visa card. I contacted them, gave them the same credit card number and still they haven't deducted it from my account. They seem to be dishonest or incompetent. I'm going to wait a couple of days and contact them again. I hope that my policy is sold to another company soon. My son and I have had our polices for over 10 years without problems with companies. pw/cw

Collected one too many premiums

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We had been paying on a policy for 19 years. It began with Kemper and then our policy was sold a few times to other companies. It landed with Protective. I called in to switch it to annual and the clerk I spoke to subtracted what we had already paid for the year, and came up with the balance due to switch it to annual. I sent the check. I get a notice saying if we don't pay an additional amount, the policy would lapse. I called in and they insisted we were a month behind. IMPOSSIBLE. We bound the insurance and paid the 1st month when we bought it. It was drafted on a regular basis for 19 years. Suddenly we are a month behind? Since they are so fond of emphatically stating the possibility of lapsing (and as far as I can tell, there is no grace period), I doubt if they would have let the policy be a month behind for years. I was forced to pay it, or lose the insurance we had faithfully paid for 19 years. I asked for a report proving the policy was behind. All they did was send a record of the payments drafted from our account with the premium dates being in sync with their claim...easy enough to do on a computer system. Also, they are always rude and short when I have to deal with them. It is a horrible company to work with. The customer service is reprehensible. I would say, "Buyer, beware". If you are in the market for life insurance, look elsewhere. I would definitely NOT be a good idea to do business with this company. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Unresponsive

My wife and I were consumers for over 20 years. I normally paid our premiums via the protective website. However some how I was informed that my wifes' policy were canceled for non-payment. I investigated and found that although I received a confirmation for for the payments, my wifes' policy did not get the payment applied. I provided my confirmation information to Protective, but after weeks of delays I was sent another application for insurance for my wife with higher premiums, not reinstatement as I requested due to the technical issue.

Really long application time

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I applied for a life insurance policy to cover the balance of my mortgage should I die before it is paid. I want my children to have my property, not be forced to sell it. Anyway, PL gave me the best "quote." Sent out a nurse for required exam - I was totall stood up the first time (I had taken the day off work), and the second time she was nearly two hours late. The company held on to, and labored over, my policy for three months before deciding whether or not to cover me (I am in relatively good health and do not participate in risky hobbies!), then they finally sent the forms by email. I did esignatures, then received the forms by Fed Ex the next day. After reviewing the forms, I have several questions...I called Protective Life and neither of the representatives with whom I spoke could answer my questions. I finally called the man who sold me the policy in the first place, and asked that he call me OVER A WEEK AGO. He still has not returned my call, but Protective Life has drafted the first payment from my checking account. These practices have me concerned that upon my death, my children will have a difficult time receiving the benefits they will need and that I will have paid for over a 25 year period of time. I really don't know what I am going to do.

Our family was LEGALLY ROBBED by Protective Life on our "key employee" life insurance policy that had been in existence for 7 1/2 years.

Well, it took 5 1/2 years after we lost our loved one -

We were denied payment on our "key employee" life insurance policy that had been in existence with Protective Life for 7 1/2 years. For the past 3 years I have been begging John Johns to review our situation -which we are in because we believed the Protective Life customer care consultant leading the reinstatement on a half a million dollar "key employee" was actually giving us correct information.

Mr. Johns has sat safely in his office and ignored my family's pleas to see how the incorrect information given to us has put our family in jeopardy - as have all of the Board Member's we contacted. The only response we received was from the company's attorney telling us again how the error made in the reinstatement of our policy is completely the fault of our deceased loved one and no one else. (The fact that their employee who earns a paycheck working in the reinstatement department of Protective Life gave us incorrect instructions, matters none to any human being associated with Protective Life.)

So, due to our family and our family business being Legally Robbed by Protective Life, our home was foreclosed on this week.

The home that my husband created the blue prints to. The home that he built with his two hands. The home that we were to share with our grandchildren - we have had taken from us. Working 7 days a week was still not enough to cover the loss of income after we lost 50% of our family business, which was why we had “key employee” life insurance.

This weekend I will have to tell my husband and our three children that we have less than 30 days to move out of our home. I honestly don’t think I can do that – in fact, I’m sure I can’t. It will break my husband’s heart. And, I can’t imagine telling our children.

But, Mr. John’s life is uninterrupted. He can continue to give interviews stating how well his company is doing and enjoying his family in their home –

Our lives are ruined. We will never recover from this. I know other people have survived having their houses foreclosed on. This is not just our house, this is our home. Where we brought all three children home from the hospital to – this home was to be in our family for generations. I can’t deal with having to tell him.

If Protective Life had chosen to honor the reinstatement that was confirmed to our family on Protective Life letterhead, our home would have been paid off years ago and we would never have been in any financial danger – which was why we purchased “key employee” life insurance.

If Protective Life had chosen to split the error – pay out half of the policy and we have begged them to do for the past three years – we would still have our home. Again, not one person at Protective Life even pretended to care that there was a mistake made. No one - not the customer care consultant who misled us, not her supervisor, not Kim Houston, not Ky Sevier in the legal department, certainly not John Johns, not any one of the Board Members, and not the company attorney Kathie Weber. Not any one of these people could understand how wrong it is to place 100% blame on the paying customer for an error that was made.

If you chose to purchase life insurance from Protective Life, make no mistake – there is not one human being employed by this company who will care about any member of your family any more than they did ours. The only concern of Protective Life is the stock price and profit margin.

Review in Life and Casualty Insurance category from Las Vegas, Nevada

They messed up the information my husband gave over the phone. Then would not allow me, the proposed beneficiary, to amend the problem. They're only open while my husband is at work so, I found a way to solve the problem. We're going with another company. What a long, drawn out, and frustrating waste of time.

As a beneficiary you can not make changes or add to the policy. You are not the owner.

Even if it was you who took out the policy. I know it sounds crazy, but think about it in these terms. Life insurance is on the life of an individual who when passed away the beneficiary will receive the funds. The person who will receive the money is the person "benefiting from the owners death".

The owner chooses whom they want to be taken care of when they die. It will look very suspicious if you, the spouse and beneficiary, upped the amount you will get and the owner dies suddenly...

Our local Standard Insurance now serviced by Protective Life in AL the worst customer service!

I have had Standard Life Insurance for over 25 years and am appalled that they are out sourcing their customer service from Portland Oregon to Birmingham Alabama. I have called several times after receiving my annual statement and found that Protective Life's automated attendant is the worst I have every experienced and they have no customer service available. I am considering cashing out my policy. As a stockholder I am also considering selling all of the stock that I have purchased over the last 15 years. Shame on you Standard! I even considered working for you! Pissed off at Standard!
